Bench Making Long Weekend
This 3 day bench making course will introduce you to the joys of making long-lasting, unique furniture, using hand tools and local, sustainably sourced hardwoods. We will cover:
• Splitting and shaping legs and stretchers using axes and drawknives.
• Preparing a rough sawn board for the bench top using hand planes, spokeshaves and scrapers.
• Determining the geometry of the bench using sightlines, and drilling holes.
• The practicalities of making mortice and tenon joints, including the drying of components.
• Assembling the bench.
• Finishing touches.
The course will take place in a beautiful, peaceful woodland workshop (weather permitting), with fresh locally sourced lunches provided (the pizza oven may even be fired up!). George will also provide a tour and talk on the ongoing organic conversion of the farm.
Suitable for a range of experience levels, from complete beginners to those with previous woodworking experience. However, please be aware that a degree of fitness/strength is required as there are quite physical elements to the course. Do get in touch if you are unsure!
